It's modular - jar
Database independent - uses hibernate
It's got great examples if you look through the test source code
It's got a gui that satisfies the business analysts - eclipse plugin
It's got the JBoss name behind it

i can testify only indirectly that it is used in *large* organisations like insurance companies, banks, airplane builders, world class large financial institutions, security organisations, military, ...
regrettably, most of these companies are quite sensitive about references. with most of these clients, we have an nda.
