    TIP: jBPM and BAM/BI

    kukeltje

In a presentation Tom gave last night, he stated that jBPM is ahead in flexibility in supporting workflow patterns. I have to agree. He also (honestly) stated jBPM is lagging in (lacking) support for process analysis).

Two, well three, projects are under development outside JBoss that could help in this area. These are:

      - http://www.pentaho.org/

      In no order of preference

Would be great if someone would spend some time (not me, no time left ;-)) on looking at options to write an 'adapter' or something to use these tools with jBPM.

If someone else has other ideas, let us know, maybe we should create a wiki page for this.

hmm... anounced two days ago: http://www.pentaho.org/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=129&Itemid=238

          Maybe I should have a preference ;-)

I should read things before submitting. One item from this anouncement:

Next quarter, Pentaho will also add support for JBoss Clustering and JBoss jBPM.

Tom, Tom.. you should have mentioned this last night..... I love to be an alpha tester for this integration part....

there are 2 aspects to it.

extracting information from the log db (hibernate queries) and visualization in the web console (integrating birt or one of the others into our jsf webapp).

on the other hand there is the collection of information. we have the logs, but it would be nice if users could specify extra information in the process definition on how extra statistical data should be generated.
e.g. a transition counter, a super state timing object, ...

I fully agree, but having people from pentaho committed to jBPM would be nice. We coud (ab)use them to get up and running fast. I already downloaded their JBoss integrated environment and wil look into this (professionally, not in my spare time) to see what they can provide. Sound's like a perfect match....

                  Hey guys,

Ask and you shall receive :) The Pentaho team has jBPM features on the radar for this quarter. I believe our initial plans include building a component for participation in a jBPM process.

We definitely would like to get your ideas and requirements on our roadmap as well. Skate over to our forums and post an initial thread with some of the functionality you would like to see, specifically some details on the process analytics Tom briefly outlined. I am sure James or Anthony (Pentaho architects) will be happy to get in touch with you once you start the conversation.

Looking forward to working with you guys. What can I say, we are gluttons for "abuse" :)

                  all the best,

                    One more note -

I probably should mention also that we intend to show our JBOSS AS/Portal/Clustering/jBPM capabilities when we join you at JBossWorld in Vegas. Should be a great show.

                    best regards,
