there is also a build target in the console that let's you build a 4.2 compatible jbpm console. but we probably won't find time to release that any time soon. as making such changes in a release requires a lot of work. But good that you let us know. If the opportunity comes along, we might just release the jboss 4.2 compatible version.
Both the web console and the enterprise EAR need to be built for 4.2 compatibility. Now, it may be additional work, but why does RedHat/JBoss release JBoss AS and leave all of the other equally as important and dependent software releases in various states of compatibility disarray?

All in line, compatible.... if you do not choose to use this (subscription based) you are to some extend on your own. Sometimes this includes downloading sources e.g. compiling etc...
