make image pulsate on load

Is there a way to make an image pulsate a couple times upon it's load via richfaces?

I've played with the rich:effect tag but the onload event doesn't seem to work.

Is there no way to do this with richfaces?

I found a way to do this with pure javascript that uses the jquery library, but including the jquery library causes some richfaces things to bug out (ie. my modal forms no longer work).

Any suggestions?
