    Invalid username/password; logon denied

      I am trying to connect to an Oracle 8i DB and am getting an exception:

      org.jboss.util.NestedSQLException: Could not create connection; - nested throwable: (java.sql.SQLException: ORA-01017: invalid username/password; logon denied
      ); - nested throwable: (org.jboss.resource.JBossResourceException: Could not create connection; - nested throwable: (java.sql.SQLException: ORA-01017: invalid username/password; logon denied
      ))

      I have classes12.zip in the server\default\lib directory.

      I have the following orw-ds.xml
      <jndi-name>jdbc/oraw</jndi-name>
      <connection-url>jdbc:oracle:thin:@XXYY:1552:ORAW</connection-url>
      <driver-class>oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver</driver-class>
      <!-- username, password are specified here as well -->

      And the code is doing:

      Hashtable env = new Hashtable();
      env.put(Context.PROVIDER_URL, "iiop://localhost:1099");
      env.put(Context.INITIAL_CONTEXT_FACTORY, "org.jnp.interfaces.NamingContextFactory");
      Context context = new InitialContext(env);
      System.err.println("context"+context);
      dataSource = (DataSource) context.lookup("java:/jdbc/oraw");

      // The username/password is specified again during the connection request.
      connection = dataSource.getConnection(userID, password);

      // This also fails.
      connection = dataSource.getConnection();

          Hello,

          org.jboss.util.NestedSQLException: Could not create connection; - nested throwable: (java.sql.SQLException: ORA-01017: invalid username/password; logon denied
          ); - nested throwable: (org.jboss.resource.JBossResourceException: Could not create connection; - nested throwable: (java.sql.SQLException: ORA-01017: invalid username/password; logon denied
          ))

          From the above lines, it clearly states that either the username does not exist in the database or the password is invalid.

          Refer the following link.

          http://www.dbmotive.com/oracle_error_codes.php?errcode=01017

          Hope, this may help you.

            Visolvejboss,

            I tried figuring out why Oracle was denying the logon and tried switching to the oci driver. Using the oci driver caused an error in the log about finding ocijdbc8.dll so I switched the version of classes12.zip to the 9i version. This caused some other minor problems including a ORA-12705 which was easily solved and finally I was able to logon to the DB. When I tried using the thin driver with the 9i version of classes12.zip I got an ORA-28037 so for now I will just stick with the oci driver.

            Thanks for the feedback.

            Richard
