Clueless 101 again

JBoss version: 4.03SP1
Portals version: 2.2.1RC2
DB: Oracle 10g Express
OS: Windows XP

Hi,

I am back to do battle with Portal again. I deployed a hello world example portlet (HelloWorldTapestry.war to be exact) under /server/default/deploy in JBoss.

Now, when I go to the management portlet and click on Portlet at the top, should I see it in the list?

hmm. No. Let me update the download, its not deploying as it still has the 2.0 descriptors. I'll get back to this post today when complete.

ok. Try again: http://labs.jboss.com/file-access/default/members/portletswap/downloads/portlets/framework/TapestryHelloWorld.zip

Unzip it. There will be a TapestryHelloWorld.war that you need to deploy. If it deploys successfully, you will see the Tapestry HelloWorld tab at the top of the default page.

Actually, I've given up on JBoss Portal. It takes 10-20 seconds to respond whenever you click anything on any page, and it blows up all the time - I'm still having that problem of the management portal disappearing. The only cure for this is to delete the database tables and start again. Not promising.

Plus, the documentation still sucks - where, for instance, is the explanation of how to deploy and test a portal, what is a portal instance, etc. etc. It seems to be written for people who are used to version 1, not newbies. I give up.
