Richfaces tree make page size massive

I was wondering if there was any way to reduce the size of the html output generated by the rich:tree component. It appears as if each node in the tree generates a lot of html output, which really kills page load times once the tree gets to any sort of size. It looks like a gook chuck of the size comes from the number of styles that are applied to each element of the tree, as well as the length of the generated ids and image URLs, (I got a 200k reduction in page size for a tree with 300 nodes when I used single character ids rather than JSF rendered ones).
