ybxiang.wolf Sep 18, 2007 12:03 AM (in response to ybxiang.wolf)The forum is filled with such sentence
http://www.jboss.com/index.html?module=bb&op=viewtopic&t=118693
Failed to create SEAM project in eclipse compared to Netbeans.
My objective is to create a SEAM 2.0 Web project as EAR for JBoss AS 4.2.1.
Recently I've set up Eclipse 3.3 with all the plugins from the http://downloads.jboss.org/jbosstools/builds/nightly/200709130250-nightly/index.html dated 200709130250.
What i did get was [An internal error occurred during: "Creating EAR and EJB modules".].
I did make a report in http://jira.jboss.org/jira/browse/JBIDE-904. I'm not sure if this is the right way to report a problem. But I'm really in love with SEAM application framework after reading JBoss SEAM : Simplicity and power beyond Java EE. I have to make this work. -

Now, what i can do is to use Ant script--Everything is write by hand!
Path,environment, jar,war,ear,deploy...and headache!

sstrenn Sep 18, 2007 2:28 AM (in response to ybxiang.wolf)Your posts are rather offensive...
I've been using seam-gen (command line) along with Red Hat Developer Studio since it went beta, and I have cranked out several web sites in the process. Perhaps you can try to be a bit more constructive with your posts - that way, if you solve any issues, we all benefit. -
5. Re: Gavin King: Bad tools of Seam is kill its uses!!!
tony.herstell1 Sep 18, 2007 2:33 AM (in response to ybxiang.wolf)This may not be what you require but I dont use Ant or Seam tools at all.
I use
MyEclipse
Create an EJB3 project and Map the correct files to thew correct "sub" projects (Ear, Jar and War).
I simply tell MyEclipse where the JBoss Server is and hit 1 button to run the server (the project is automgically deployed for me by MyEclipse using something called exploded deployment).
The server output (console) is in a MyEclipse window and I can just add in breakpoints and step through the running code within MyEclipse.
I could not be simpler.
However; Ant is IDE Neutral so you are going to stuck with Ant from the Seam team as Ant makes sense (I even use it to build the demos to find which files to move where)!
It Really COULD NOT be easier... I very rarely re-start the server either as any code cahnges are to the "running code"... so you just make a change to the code and carry on.. VERY useful with your JSF pages! -

nickarls Sep 18, 2007 4:42 AM (in response to ybxiang.wolf)Well, before I drop dead:
Tony, could you give some details on how to achieve maximum hot-deployment. Have you added something to the JBoss deployment scanner, do you keep stuff in WEB-INF/dev or what? -

supernovasoftware.com Sep 18, 2007 9:40 AM (in response to ybxiang.wolf)I have never tried using seam tools, but I am looking for well designed reusable code. My facelets templates are many levels deep. I write every thing by hand and prefer it that way.
It gives me better understanding and control. I would only be interested in drag and drop for simple prototyping.
Seam gen sets up a working project or just take one of the example and modify.
I used seam gen to make a seam 2.0 project and then used the seamdisc example to integrate trinidad. -

saeediqbal1 Sep 18, 2007 10:10 AM (in response to ybxiang.wolf)Tony could you please post a tutorial on how you do all that? I dont have myeclipse i would rather try doing that using redhat studio.
Thanks. -

monkeyden Sep 18, 2007 10:30 AM (in response to ybxiang.wolf)I agree with supernova. The tools that exist today pretty much satisfy my needs. The only thing I really need from a seam tool is to generate the finicky project structure. The rest is just referring to examples. And don't forget, this framework is maturing at a ridiculous rate. Also, the number of core enterprise features you "get for free" can't be matched as far as I'm concerned.

13. Re: Gavin King: Bad tools of Seam is kill its uses!!!
pmuir Sep 18, 2007 12:50 PM (in response to ybxiang.wolf)There are some very nice things on the way on the tooling front (I'm not sure what will make it into the first GA of JBossTools/RHDS) - I'm really looking forward to refactoring across components/xhtml/pages.xml/components.xml for one - and the autocomplete into Seam components when you use EL is pretty neat.
