i prefer 1 solid persistence tech that has more QA.
i want to ship 1 default, solid, QA-ed persistence out of the box.

        I absolutely agree! So +1.

This is a scoop, as not yet official, but the eXo Platform guys (responsibles for eXo JCR implementation) will probably join to add JCR support. At that time some issues will probably raise and some improvements will be required in the PVM persistence service... as Tom said we are open for improvements.

I would be surprised if the result turns out to be performant, reliable and complete.

We have to be carefull with such initiatives. On the one hand, I don't want to block initiatives that make progress. On the other hand, I think we need to prevent distractions for us (development efforts) and for our users (choosing the best persistence strategy for their usage).

Being embeddable is important. Most crucial piece is transaction integration. If the PVM persistence strategy is completely in sync with the client's application persistence, that is a plus.

With the current adoption of JCR vs hibernate/JPA, spending efforts and risking dillution on it seems a waist to me.

I agree we (Bull-Jboss) should focus on one persistence technology.

However, I think the approach I proposed to the eXo guys is interesting:

            - Their default persitence technology is JCR
            - They want to use the XPDL extension in their solutions (based on the PVM technology)

so, they will start working with the Nova Bonita final version (XPDL extension) and check how to use JCR as a peristence mechanism.

From the results of this evaluation, we could estimate the effort to update the PVM to support this persistence technology.

I am very scared of this. As much as I like Benjamin, maintaining 2 independent persistency mechanisms will be too hard, I think.

We have trouble enough to optimize our hibernate based persistence as it is and testing it in high load clustered environments.

I will not go through this support if i'm not feeling 100% confident that we can manage both so let's give them a try, just a first evaluation, and I will open again this discussion afterwards,
