Actually, I spent some time researching this before I posted my question on this forum.
I don't think this can help me because the notifications seem to only send a start and stop event. I need to obtain a "completed" event to know that the deployment is complete.
This is what promted me to use a ProgressListener...
Thoughts anybody? This must have been done before

The start event is actually an event to indicate that the deployment is completed. An example from that wiki:
org.jboss.deployment.SubDeployer.start - javax.management.Notification notification emitted by jboss.web:service=WebServer to indicate a WAR has been deployed. The short-name property contains the WAR filename.

However, in my mind "has been deployed" doesn't mean "deployement is complete".
