If you run jboss as a regular user, you can't bind to ports under 1024 on a unix host. You could use a iptables port forward...

Whats in bindings-jboss-beans in conf\bindingservice.beans\META-INF ?
could you describe how you changed your ports configuration?
For JBoss 6, this should not happen in "server.xml", but in "%JBOSS_HOME%\server\default\conf\bindingservice.beans\META-INF\bindings-jboss-beans.xml" as far as I know. For older JBoss versions, this file might be located at a slightly different path.
