Just a heads up. I was finding that my polls were handing on one machine. I tried it on another Fire Fox installation with an older (1.6.0) installation of FireBugs and it does not have the issue. I then disabled Fire Bugs on the problem machine and the problem went away.

So if you find that <a4j:Poll> is hanging you might want to try to disable FireBugs
