I think you can do that. Just remember the value needs to evaluate to a comma-separated String of classes containing as many tokens as there are columns.
It's JSF restriction. We've filled corresponding issue to mojara and them proposed to assign it to JSF specification as RFC. In the result we choosen JSF compatible way.

JohnDoe123, i think that you are probably referring to the columnClasses
attribute. Have you tried this?
in JSF row classes should be defined by simple comma-separated String of classes the same for columnClasses and evaluated all at once and not on every row rendering.
