    Why deprecate datasource-ds.xml files?

We used to be able to generate a directory of files to dump into JBoss for our apps to work, now we have to have people edit system config files as well. To me this seems to only have down sides. So what are the upsides?

Why did the JBoss team decide to deprecate the *-ds.xml files? Wasn't the point of the *-ds.xml files to make editing the system config files obsolete?

What does forcing the users to edit the server config files give us?
