Listener vs. EntityPersister?

Hi

after looking at what Envers does, the question arose why this was solved with an EventListener and not a custom implementation of an EntityPersister. I have not used either of them before, so I might miss an obvious reason.

Because you want to intercept for example an entity update, and do some additional actions, not replace the cuntionality of updating an entity in the database.
