Best way to access RAW HTTP Request

The current project that I'm working on needs to face with a client side RIA that pretty much talks XML over HTTP. What would be the seam's way to access these HTTP parameters/headers and respond to them with new headers, etc...

I know you can do this using the JSF's external context, just wanted to see if this is a proper approach in seam.

(HttpServletRequest)FacesContext.getCurrentInstance().getExternalContext().getRequest();

I was thrill to find out about ServletContexts as I use to retrieve HttpRequest from FacesContext. I think the code is a lot more clean. However, I also find out there is no getResponse() in ServletContexts. Could someone enlighten me with the design decision behind that?
