can they work together?

Hi I'd like to use the seam file upload along side the a4j command button. This is so that I can use the status indicator. However the file doesn't seam to upload unless i use a standard h:commandButton.

Is what i want possible?

There is a rich:fileupload w/ progress bar component se this.
