how to write a component in seam which will have base component behavior...and extended behavior

For Ex:
E commerce Application...

There is already a Base component like Shopping Cart. If i need to write my own custom behavior with added advantage of base component Shopping Cart.

Dan mentioned in the book... like we need to configure through component.xml only... is there any way just by extending Shopping Cart it will refer my custom Shopping cart  base shopping cart
