External Filtering using rich:datatable not working

I have been trying to implement custom filtering using rich:datatable and rich:extendeddatatable with no luck yet. For some reason, the filterMethod does not get fired on onkeyup event. It's the same thing I am doing as shown in this post -

"I think I know what went wrong. <rich> tags should be enclosed in <h:form> tags. Somehow I forgot to include <h:form> tag."
