Just trying to understand this. What is the actual use of Configuration.isSharedStore() in a live server?

I mean is there something (other than more careful coding) stopping us from having a server supporting having either a shared storage backup or a replicating backup?

I am not talking about supporting having both a "shared storage backup" and a "replicating backup" at the same time, but just wondering if it wound't it be better if users didn't have to configure that for their live servers to start with.
