Yes, Stefano is right, it turned out to be a bug. Although I'm a bit surprised no one else ran into it so far.

Dear All
I took the latest nighty build and I am happy to say that ds.xml is working for my application.
Because of the truncation of "java:/" from the JNDI , I was missing dependency issue. Not solved and able to log in to my application
A sincere thanks for Stefano, jaikiran and Nicklas for their patience and support extended in getting this solved
