Developer 6 on Win 32 - "EGit could not detect where Git is installed"

Hello.

I installed developer 6 on my new windows PC and I'm now seeing the warning windows on startup "EGit could not detect where Git is installed".

So, I exited developer 6 and downloaded + installed "Git for Windows" from http://msysgit.github.com/

I then set the HOME environment variable to the git installation directory and restarted developer 6. The same warning window appeared.

So, I tried to set the eclipse preference as suggested in the warning window: Preferences | Team | Git now points to my git installation directory. The same warning window appears.

I installed Git for Windows in a non standard folder c:\s\Git instead of accepting the default folder. Other than that, I took all the defaults.

Can anyone suggest an idea to satisfy this dependency ?

Ok. The answer was out there at http://wiki.eclipse.org/EGit/User_Guide#Setting_up_the_Home_Directory_on_Windows
I used Preferences | Team | Git | Configuration - the System tab and browsed to my non standard installation folder c:\s\Git
I also set my HOME directory to be the windows user profile directory - not a usual task when setting up windows applications.

Hi Gerry

EGit actually doesn't need a binary git installed to your windows. EGit is using a java git implementation. The warning is about the HOME environment variable that was not detected. EGit would then fall back to %HOMEDRIVE%/%HOMEPATH% to store its configurations.The warning is telling you that this location might differ from %HOME% which a binary git (for windows) is using. EGit will still work.

The warning is eventually badly worded. Shortening the text and kkipping the initial warning would help so that users would read the whole thing and better grock what it is all about.
