JBoss 7.1.1 Final logging...

Morning,

We are porting an application from JBoss 4 to JBoss 7.1.1 Final. We have a jboss-log4j.xml file which contains the log4j configuration for our application ( it's deployed as an ear ).

I have not been able to get this working in JBoss 7. I finally found this issue: https://issues.jboss.org/browse/AS7-514 which points to needing to upgrade to 7.1.2 Final to get this working.

Is there any way to get app level logging working with 7.1.1 Final and a log4j.xml file?

Yes you just need to exclude the server version of log4j in a jboss-deployment-structure.xml.

If you don't use any special log4j appenders you can configure this with the logging subsystem. In fact in EAP 6.1.Alpha1 you can actually use log4j appenders as custom handlers.

We are using commons logger ( org.apache.commons.logging ) so I added the below configuration to my jboss-deployment-structure.xml file and everything works.

<exclusions>
     <module name="org.slf4j"/>
     <module name="org.apache.log4j" />
     <module name="org.apache.commons.logging" />
</exclusions>
