    Intermittent JULLogDelegate error

    Robert Pettefar Newbie

      Hi guys.

This has been a problem that has been paguing the development of our system with Hornet Q.

After hours of working correctly our java application will no long be able to connect to a queue. This state will remain for some time before it again accepts connections. Trying to find a guranteed replicable senario has so far evaded me.

This is the error text that gets reported:

I've never had such case before. and I don't have much information there.

It could be something environmental. or else you will need to provide us more information.

Try looking at the server logs for more information. maybe OS specific logs?

          • 2. Re: Intermittent JULLogDelegate error
            Robert Pettefar Newbie

Hi, sorry for the delay, I had to go away for a few days.

The server log contains this sort of thing for pretty much every message posted to the server (about 50 times):

16:46:01,995 WARN  [org.hornetq.core.protocol.core.impl.RemotingConnectionImpl] (hornetq-failure-check-thread) Connection failure has been detected: Did not receive data from /192.168.2.118:16704. It is likely the client has exited or crashed without closing its connection, or the network between the server and client has failed. You also might have configured connection-ttl and client-failure-check-period incorrectly. Please check user manual for more information. The connection will now be closed. [code=3]

16:46:01,995 WARN  [org.hornetq.core.server.impl.ServerSessionImpl] (hornetq-failure-check-thread) Client connection failed, clearing up resources for session f1d768df-b275-11e2-a2fe-00270e17da63

16:46:01,995 WARN  [org.hornetq.core.server.impl.ServerSessionImpl] (hornetq-failure-check-thread) Cleared up resources for session f1d768df-b275-11e2-a2fe-00270e17da63

16:46:01,995 WARN  [org.hornetq.core.server.impl.ServerSessionImpl] (hornetq-failure-check-thread) Client connection failed, clearing up resources for session f1d8ef80-b275-11e2-a2fe-00270e17da63

16:46:02,011 WARN  [org.hornetq.core.server.impl.ServerSessionImpl] (hornetq-failure-check-thread) Cleared up resources for session f1d8ef80-b275-11e2-a2fe-00270e17da63

This line then shows up at the bottom when the failure occures:

17:11:03,749 INFO  [org.jboss.as.naming] (Remoting "jboss-server" task-1) JBAS011806: Channel end notification received, closing channel Channel ID 1cdeb5e2 (inbound) of Remoting connection 5e83be42 to null

Does this shed any more light on the issue?

            Rob

            • 3. Re: Intermittent JULLogDelegate error
              Andy Taylor Master

that basically means that the server has lost connection to its client this could be caused by mis configuration, network issue, client crashing or the server being placed under too much load and becoming unresponsive.

              • 4. Re: Intermittent JULLogDelegate error
                Robert Pettefar Newbie

The first part or the second part?

I suppose it might be a load issue. I was using a small load test program that fires off 50 messages in quick succession.

Hmm, on checking though the error logs this pattern of log messages appears for the other times I ran the program that didn't result in the error first mentioned.

I'll check the OS logs to see if anything shows up there.

                Thanks Andy

                • 5. Re: Intermittent JULLogDelegate error
                  Andy Taylor Master

the first part, the second part is just a remoting connection being closed.

50 messages wouldnt be a heavy load, it would be in the thousands

                  • 6. Re: Intermittent JULLogDelegate error
                    Robert Pettefar Newbie

Ah right, if its not a load issues I guess the most likely cause is mis-configuration then.

Were you referring to mis-configuration of the server or the client?

                    • 7. Re: Intermittent JULLogDelegate error
                      Andy Taylor Master

I was thinking of TTL etc but looking at your config you dont change this, I can only assume its env, maybe a network outage issue or something. you could try configuring your connections to reconnect etc to deal with it.

                      • 8. Re: Intermittent JULLogDelegate error
                        Robert Pettefar Newbie

I'm not sure that would work really because once the server starts spitting out the JULLogDelegate error then it will continue to do so for a few hours or so.

There doesn't seem to be anything of relevance in the OS log either. As for environments: This is running in a Windows 2008 Server environment on a VM on a server in a local network. I doubt it is a network issue as I have been continually remote desktopping to the machine without interruption when it has failed.

                          Andy Taylor Master

without more info its hard to say what is happening, you could catch the errors in the debugger to see why it is failing

                          • 10. Re: Intermittent JULLogDelegate error
                            Robert Pettefar Newbie

This turned out to be a DNS issue. Nothing to do with HornetQ.
