We were thinking of removing it, as having default & defaultValue are pretty confusing and they apply to different scenarios, so they could be unified.
That deprecation marker is in since a looong time (one should use the templates (iirc)), but effectively there are no plans to remove that in the near
Pardon my ignorance, but what templates are you referring to? is there a way other than "default" to specify values?
Yes, in a <c:template> section -- this can even have more than one deault and the user can choose from them.
the JMX-Plugin is probably the best example - see https://git.fedorahosted.org/cgit/rhq/rhq.git/tree/modules/plugins/jmx/src/main/resources/META-INF/rhq-plugin.xml#n49
If you go to a platform, inventory tab, children subtab, you can at the bottom run "manual import" - select the JMX server and you'll then be presented with a screen to choose from those templates.
