Regarding best numbers -- you can try different settings, run a test, and find a peak and use that value.

One more question, Do we need to set these properties in hot rod server alone or we need to set it in hot rod client as well? We have set these properties in hot rod server but still we are not seeing much improvement in network communication timings. I am not sure but somehow I am feeling we are missing something very basic here and it seems that to get object of 30 MB size it is making multiple trips between client and server and I feel that there should be some way to get data in one trip.
The cache manager is configured through a Properties object passed to the constructor -- have you tried that?
Can you elaborate a bit on what you are seeing that is not "in one trip"?
