Best way to locate application specific property files

I am migrating from Glassfish 4 to Wildlfy. With Glassfish the current working directory is the config directory so it is very easy to pick up a properties file from that directory. It is also easy for deployment scripts to dump content in that directory. With wildfly run as a service the working directory is "/". Is there some property I can use to locate the configuration directory and the log directory and is there any problem in putting material not known to wildfly into the configuration directory? Also is their some property to tell me that I am running in the wildlfy container?

The server sets certain system properties during booting. One of them is jboss.server.config.dir property wildfly/server/src/main/java/org/jboss/as/server/ServerEnvironment.java at 8.x · wildfly/wildfly · GitHub whose value you can get by calling the System.getProperty("jboss.server.config.dir") API within your application.

Thanks I see that there is also a property for the log dir and, further, by the presence of such properties I can know that I am in the jboss/wildlfy container.
