The pull request once merged will make it to 9.0.0 Final version. You can in fact try it out before that and make sure it works by using a nightly build (after the pull request is merged).

This has now been merged to both 9.x branch (from where 9.0.0 release will be done) as well as trunk (for 10.x releases). If you want to test out the 9.x branch, then you will have to build it locally or wait for 9.0.0.CR2 to be released. I don't see a nightly build for the 9.x branch from where you could directly download the WildFly nightly binary.
