Just been told the problem has been identified and solved. There is a manual process that needs to be done for some of the early purchases and that process take some time to go through the backlog.

It should be in place later tonight or tomorrow.

If it is not let me know.

        sorry for the trouble.

          First, sorry my bad english!

Sincerely I think RedHat is loosing some "community" points with this policy in favour of NetBeans/Glassfish bundle that provides a complete out of the box solution without any fees and a community friendly licencing model.

You say we can build the JBoss studio with the tool set. If true, why you can't build it for the community :(

I also purchased JBoss Developer Studio but i havn't got anything. I didn't find this tool but several Red Hat Enterprise Linus downloads. I sent an email about my problem to the CC and i got a promise everything would be fine by now. It is Not! What do you think? What can i do? It's weird situation ...

              maxandersen

I have a hard time understanding how providing 3 pieces of easy to install software opensource and use freely and with zero technical limitations is considered "bad".

Could we do more ? Sure, but it is the community that should speak up about what they want and eventually help it happen.

You send a mail via the contact/support mail on the shop; they can fix it - we can't from here.

Finally I'm downloading bundle of 528MB!!!

Thanks to the help of the JBoss support team. It cost me some calls to the US (the listed support phone number is no longer valid anymore), but in the end ... it's downloading.

Some testing in advance would be nice next time.

But for the rest.... I can start :-)

                    Max,

To ease the technology adoption, one big bundle file is much better than separate pieces.

For example, JBossESB has jBPM inside... gooodddd... even if you have to download jBPM suite to get advanced stuff.

                    Another Example, Eclipse Europa

Another Example, Netbeans 6.0 (you can add the Seam Plugin)

Another example, Pentaho, you have a big demo with all inside and working. You can work with the demo... and when you are ready, you can download the separate parts.

If you only distribute the parts, you are requesting to adopt the technology and configure it at the same moment.

And everytime you need the development environment you have to rememeber how to add al the parts.

PD: You know all the stuff, so I understand that you think It´s ease to join the part.... but It´s not when you are trying to figure out how to mix Eclipse, Beans, MBeans, Jboss, Jmx, Esb, JBpm, Seam, Exadel, etc, etc

                    Regards,
                    Eric

                    • 37. Re: Download JBDS or

About JbossESB, I was forgetting It integrates more projects: Drools, Smooks, and Groovy.

So..... Imagine if you distribute an empty Service Bus, saying "Ok, you always can configure all."...... It does not work in that way.

With JbossESB, you have all alredy integrated and with Quickstarts.... I think It´s the best packaged service.

                      Regards,
                      Eric

I have to agree with Eric.

Tools like SeamGen are all about getting started RIGHT away and falling in love with the tools without days of configuration and frustration.

If you make me suffer through this, I will just go and download NetBeans and be off.

As a case in point, I did precisely this in trying to use Seam before I found RHDS. I installed a bunch of plugins to Eclipse, got it mostly working, gave up in frustration, went to Netbeans - bam, had my first Seam appl running in 15 minutes.

RHDS is WAY better than Netbeans for Seam development. Let folks download the FULL JBDS so that they can see this for themselves.

                          Your points are heard.

About Netbeans then there you need to download Netbeans, JBoss, Seam and the Seam plugin...the exact same number of downloads as you need for Eclipse...Eclipse, JBoss, Seam and the Seam plugin.

This is from Exadel Partnership FAQ:

Why is this significant for developers?

For the first time, developers will have access to a high caliber Eclipse-based development environment that is available entirely in open source. Red Hat Developer Studio provides an advanced, enterprise-level Web application development environment for leveraging open source, JEE, and AJAX technologies within Eclipse. It combines visual and source-oriented development tools with support for multiple open source technologies, including JSF, Struts, Hibernate, Seam, MyFaces, Oracle ADF, Shale, and Spring.

JBoss Ajax4jsf and JBoss RichFaces will enable developers to add AJAX to their JSF applications without having to write any JavaScript. This makes developing rich Internet applications simple and a natural extension of building JEE applications.

Moreover, Red Hat will be enhancing and extending the functionality of JBoss Ajax4jsf, JBoss RichFaces, and Red Hat Developer Studio through integration with other JBoss platform technologies such as JBoss Seam and JBoss jBPM. Developers benefit from an integrated, highly productive, and rich development experience with Red Hat.

this is also from the same FAQ:

What will happen to JBoss IDE ?

JBoss IDE will be joining the broader open source Red Hat Developer Studio project. The Red Hat Developer Studio project will make available many individual Eclipse plugins, including all the JBoss IDE and former Exadel Studio Pro plugins. It will not, however, release a completely packaged and installable IDE like JBoss IDE did. Instead, Red Hat will make individual plugins available for developers to install and update. For those developers that want an out-of-box developer IDE, Red Hat will offer subscriptions that include integrated, installable, and supported versions of Red Hat Developer Studio along with JBoss and Red Hat platforms and components.

There is a contradiction here. When I read this, "Eclipse-based development environment", I understand an ide with mentioned features(Here it is talking about RHDS).
But then comes "It will not, however, release a completely.........For those developers that want an out-of-box developer IDE, Red Hat will offer subscriptions...". It is about JBossIDE, this reads like a technically supported IDE with more features to me, not RHDS...

And there is nothing about "JBoss Developer Studio" in that FAQ,there is RHDS,we used its beta versions, when beta testing finished there comes JBDS with 99$ price...

This seems like a trickery to me, and I wasn't expecting such a thing from JBoss.

Congrats, you lost a whole brach of developers with this move...

                            • 41. Re: Download JBDS or
                              maxandersen

Sefai - I fail to understand where we have been lying or not open about what the two different project are.

The download page *always* stated that the final version would be available under subscription.

RHDS is used in that faq because it was what we planned to call the out-of-box-with-supported-software IDE. It changed to JBDS for GA.

About "It" in the sentence then yes it is about JBossIDE and we explicitly states what happens to it.

Down the road I hope we will have time/resources to add a bundle of the community projects of JBoss AS and Seam with Eclipse and our plugins, but right now we are focusing on doing the bundle of the*supported* binaries.

Would be great if someone from the community would steps up and contribute the work needed for doing it - it is opensource afterall!

Look at the opening and closing statements:

For the first time, developers will have access to a high caliber Eclipse-based development environment that is available entirely in open source.

Developers benefit from an integrated, highly productive, and rich development experience with Red Hat.

You are talking about RHDS providing an advanced, enterprise-level Web application development environment for leveraging open source, JEE, and AJAX technologies within Eclipse.

And you are also talking about JBossIDE out-of-the-box-with-supported software will be enabled by subscription(two different things in my opinion).

OK,sell it,I dont mind, but let me access to a high caliber Eclipse-based development environment providing an advanced, enterprise-level Web application development environment for leveraging open source, JEE, and AJAX technologies within Eclipse...I dont call a toolset which I need to manually download/install/test on Eclipse as an Environment...

You ask someone from the community to contribute the work needed for doing that, but you already did that and sell it for 99$.If it can be done free what are you selling?

                                • 43. Re: Download JBDS or

Also from the Benefits list for JBoss Developer Studio:

                                  * Provides a pre-assembled development environment, including both tooling and runtime components. No need to cobble together your own environment.
                                  * Tested and certified to assure that all components, like seam and eclipse seam tooling work well together as well as across other components like Hibernate, JBoss AS.
                                  * Assurance that all JBoss Developer Studio plugins are compatible with each other, and runtime components and their dependencies are compatible with each other.
                                  * Certified updates so you don't have to worry about updating parts that may not work with the rest of the environment
                                  * Includes JBoss Enterprise Application Platform, which contains the versions of JBoss AS, Hibernate, Seam, and other components that Red Hat supports in production for 5 years.
                                  * Includes Red Hat Enterprise Linux and access to Red Hat Network.

So Tools are free but we have to cobble together our own environment,we have to ensure all work well together,we have to check plugins are compatible with each other, and we have to worry about updating parts that may not work and if we are left with any spare time we HAVE TO CODE!!!

Note that this is nothing new. Even if you *buy* another tooling vendor's product, you still have to go through this cycle since they don't integrate JBoss Enterprise Application Platform or another runtime platform for you. With JBoss Developer Studio, we are looking to offer brand new value that doesn't exist today with an instantly ready-to-go open source development environment that is fully assembled and tested--hopefully the time and effort we're saving you is worth buying JBDS. If not, use JBoss Tools. It's free and has the *same* great tooling functionality as JBDS.

In fact, why would you buy another tooling product when you can get JBoss Tools for free? Other tooling products don't certify Seam or Hibernate or JBoss AS for you either. But, if you want brand new value around certification and integration that other Eclipse tooling vendors don't offer, then consider JBDS.
