Sounds like there is definitely hope for the future. I'll take a look at some of SAR stuff (Is this a standard, or something the JBoss group came up with?). I'll also do some more research into JMX in general.
I think before I go and try and change the world, that taking some smaller steps and adding some connectors (IIOP, Telnet, SOAP, JMS, etc) to JBoss' current JMX suite would be a better use of my time and fit the existing architecture better.
In time I think a new MBean loading and proxy system would be interesting to work on. All this technology so little time...
You might want to speak to Tom Elrod first.
He is currently working on JBossMX "connectivity".
It might not make it into JBossMX-1.0 but he already
some of jmx1.5 working (even though it not due for
release until June :-))
Actual spec compliance is another issue, but the
functionality is there (remote discovery and heartbeat).
