jboss 3.0/Tomcat binary release and AIX 4.3.3 tar

    Jonathan Ruttenberg Newbie

I have tried to extract the files from
      jboss-3.0.0_tomcat-4.0.3.tar, using the 'tar'
provided with AIX 4.3.3. I get an error like
      this:
      x jboss-3.0.0_tomcat-4.0.3/bin/shutdown.sh, 1800 bytes, 4 media blocks.
      x jboss-3.0.0_tomcat-4.0.3/tar: 0511-169 A directory checksum error on media; 804395936 not equal to 36021.
      bin/jboss_init_redhat.sh, 2417 bytes, 5 media blocks.

After extracting a few more files,, tar ends like this:
      x ././@LongLink, 123 bytes, 1 media blocks.
      x jboss-3.0.0_tomcat-4.0.3/catalina/webapps/tomcat-docs/catalina/docs/api/org/apache/catalina/valves

This is the first "LongLink" in the tar file.

This version of 'tar' successfully extracts files
from 'tomcat' archives which use the LongLink extension.
It may be significant that the 'tomcat' archive
has LongLink entries with 644 permissions, whereas
the jboss archive has LongLink entries with all bits
      cleared.

Note: the 'tar' command is run as a non-root user.

Any solutions for this problem would be appreciated.
