jboss_in_virginia Aug 20, 2002 2:11 PM (in response to jboss_in_virginia)Does anyone else need to change logging dynamicaly from say ERROR to DEBUG without shutting down JBoss? If you have solutions I would love to hear them. Thank you.

marvil Aug 23, 2002 7:56 AM (in response to jboss_in_virginia)In 3.0.1 it's possible to edit the log4j.xml file directly as it is hot deployed. The other way is to open the jmx-console and click on the Log4jService. Scroll down to the method setLoggerPriority. Put the category you want to change in arg0 and the level to change it to in arg1, e.g. arg0="org.jboss" arg1="DEBUG". Click on invoke and the setting is changed. It is not persistent, so if you restart the server, the setting will be reset.

jboss_in_virginia Aug 23, 2002 11:29 AM (in response to jboss_in_virginia)Hey Thanks Marvin.
For those that don't know JBoss has a tool for changing JBoss services dynamically. Just go to port 8082. Here you'll find the JMX Console. I used this to modify log4j services.
Side note: I shut down log4j services, changed a value and started it up again. This only worked if the log4j service was down for 2 minutes or more (maybe a quirk).
