is there any reason why you do not want to install a copy of the jar into each sar?

I observed that classes in a JAR contained in SAR file 1 are not visible in SAR file 2 (I get class not found exception).
They are visible, unless you're explicitly isolating their classloaders with <loader-repository> tag. You need to order the deployments though, SAR1 (with the JAR classes) must be deployed before SAR2, or you will see a ClassNotFoundException.
