700 file handles on Error.log

After being up for 1 month, linux runs out of file handles (max 1000). There are 700 handles on jboss_home/bin/Error.log.
Is this a bug? Will a trace level of FATAL minimise this?

How did you install JBoss?

By default there is no such file 'Error.log', this must be something you have setup yourself.

someone had coded it, and it is a strange place to put the file.
