No, it should work. Use the http://localhost:8080/jmx-console viewer and go to the JNDIView MBean and take a look a the JNDI tree. Maybe the JNDI name you've set is not good and maybe it needs to be prepended by a "partitions/xxx" or something like that.
I'm attaching you the whole server.log file. I think the interesting part is to see WHERE do the exceptions occur.
