    Running JbossAS

    Greg Carlin Newbie

I'm a newbie in Jboss, and I have problems to run it :

I've download Jboss-4.2.2.GA.zip and follow the online installation guide. The problem is nothing appears on http://localhost:8080...

JDK 1.6 is installed. JAVA_HOME and JBOSS_HOME are defined. Java and Jboss are both in /usr. I'm working under Red Hat Linux Entreprise 4.5.

I have some remarks : is that normal that i have to put ANT_HOME if ant isn't on my computer... ? It seems that just Java DK is needed.

Hope u'll be able to help me :)

I let you the log :

          Peter Johnson Master

According to the output you posted, you should be able to see the home page using http://localhost:8080. Note this line of the output:

          17:39:08,866 INFO [Http11Protocol] Arrancando Coyote HTTP/1.1 en puerto http-127.0.0.1-8080

Are you sure you are using htpp://localhost:8080 and not http://myhostname:8080?

What is this about ANT_HOME? For the JBossAS binary you downloaded, the entire set of installation steps are:

          1) Unzip the binary zip file to a directory of your choice
          2) Make sure JAVA_HOME is set to a JDK

Also, one warning: JBossAS 4.2.2 is not qualified to run with JDK 6, only JDK 5. You will run into some glitches, especially with web services. See http://wiki.jboss.org/wiki/Wiki.jsp?page=JBossWithJDK6

just a question: are you trying to access localhost:8080 from the same computer you have JBoss running?
If not it will of course never work.

              Greg Carlin Newbie

It seems that Java wasn't conrrectly configure, but the problem still remain.

I've accessed to http://localhost:8080/ from the coñputer i've installed it.

I wonder if it's not a problem in Redhat configuration for Internet and ports (/etc/hosts or something else...). How can I check it.

I've started from 0. SO that's a pure Reh Hat Linux Entreprise version with only JDK installed. Can something be missing ?

Some lines in the log woory me :

11:17:46,328 INFO [STDOUT] no object for null
11:17:46,329 INFO [STDOUT] no object for null

Is there other variables I should check expect JBOSS_HOME ?

This output all looks good to me. The "no object for null" messages you can ignore, I get those too.

Are you saying that you can access the app server from the local machine using http://localhost:8080, but not from a remote machine? If so, did you read the release notes (readme.html)? First bullet under JBossAS 4.2.0.GA in the Configuration Issues section.

yes, check your hosts file. But that should probably not prevent you from accessing localhost (unless of course that was mapped to something weird, like a disconnected network card).
