Just thought I would drop a line on the use of JBoss/Apache/Tomcat on Linux on our corporate Webserver. The use of open source has allowed us to deploy our corporate website and demo web apps on a 7 year old Pentium 166 with 64 mb of ram. Why did we use such old and mundane hardware ? To prove to our customers that software technology should never have to be expensive, nor require massive investment in new hardware (aka BEA, IBM-Websphere, Microsoft, etc).

That was developed as a demo, to showcase some of the technology that we could provide to our customers. We couldn't get any takers, so that project was shelved (and hence nothing was done to fix the null pointer exception).
