Thanks for the post Howard. Since i've already gotten my installation up and running I think i'm just going to keep it as is rather than try for a re-install. I know it would probably be helpful to many if i could find some ways to make the install easier, but it also might be more informative to them to try and bump their way thru it with some help from their friends on the forums. Your first option of using the full JBoss/Nukes zip file would have been the easiest, but i already had JBoss installed and didn't want to mess it up. The second option you gave is what i tried and eventually it worked. Not only that but i learned a bit about debugging the setup.xml dB initializers, posted a bug fix and got the file updated. So for me that was probably a bit of a learning experience that i needed.

I'd have to agree with you on that one. I guess i didn't completely see the purpose for the installer because i was setting up postgreSQL which the installer didn't really like. I think it could be fully functional but it takes a bit of work. And of course most people wouldn't choose to work on an installer because it's pretty far removed from the fun and noticeable fixes in the system itself. The CMP concept is a new one for me (most things in this Java world are) so i'll have to look into it a bit more for details. The bits I gather from your post are exciting possibilities though.

I'm gonna move past the install and see what i can do with Nukes. I have some ideas to play with but i need to see what's already been done before i get started. Thanks again for your help... .joe

yes the installer is flawed I think we are going to get rid of it unless someone wants to fix it, but I guess none will do.

            Julien,

Rather than fixing the installer, I really want to help fix the core CMP issue mentioned in a number of my earlier posts.

I think we either need to get the installer working, or eliminate the need for it. See my comments on these threads to understand what I really think needs to become very high priority -- to clean up the back end, make the build and installation process reasonable, and get a good foundation for moving forward:

            http://www.jboss.org/index.html?module=bb&op=viewtopic&t=46324

            http://www.jboss.org/index.html?module=bb&op=viewtopic&t=45576

Please pay special attention to the EJB CMP discussion -- if Nukes were properly leveraging JBoss's top-notch EJB CMP capabilities, there would be no need for installers, DDL, or any of this tedious and error-prone database setup we are doing now.

I want to see the DDL/SQL go away. This might involve eliminating the installer, or maybe transforming the installer into a "meta-administration" tool, or fixing it enough so it can be used temporarily while the real solution is being done.
