AS 6.0.0.M2 Release Notes

JBoss AS 6.0.0.M2 is the second milestone release of the community driven AS 6 series. Building on the first milestone release, it includes support for additional key technologies that are part of the EE6 specification. Further capabilities will be added in future milestones. The release is available for download from the download page.

The new EE standards supported in this release are:

Servlet 3.0 (JSR 315) -- easier development through annotations, asynchronous processing support, and pluggability and extensability through a modular web.xml.
JPA 2.0 (JSR 317) -- increased modeling flexibility, greater object-relational mapping capability, new locking options and a criteria query API

Other major additions include:

RESTEasy provides various frameworks to help you build RESTful Web Services and RESTful Java applications. It is a fully certified and portable implementation of the JAX-RS 1.0 specification. A later AS 6.0.0 release will include a RESTEasy release that support JAX-RS 1.1.
The Microcontainer that forms the core of the AS has been updated to the 2.2 series.
Many bug fixes and small enhancements as listed in the full notes below.

There are a few other significant changes from the previous release worth highlighting:

The "web" configuration (i.e. $JBOSS_HOME/server/web) has been removed from the distribution to reduce confusion with the somewhat different EE 6 web profile. It is definitely the intent that AS 6 will ship a EE 6 web profile compliant configuration, most likely as the default configuration. There are a couple of threads on the jboss-development mailing list dealing with the topic of the exact set of pre-configured profiles AS 6 should ship; community members are encouraged to provide input.
The management consoles that ship with the AS are no longer deployed as part of the standard AS boot; instead they are deployed on demand upon receipt of a request for them.
The legacy pooled invoker has been removed. Applications using the pooled invoker should switch to the JBoss Remoting-based unified invoker, which has been the default detached invoker since 4.2.

A Note on Release Naming

The shorthand name for this release is 6.0.0.M2; this is what you'll see in many locations primarily meant to be read by humans (e.g. the download pages.) However, the official name for the release is 6.0.0.20100216-M2, a name which follows the JBoss project versioning conventions for projects that issue milestone releases. The inclusion of the date of the release in the release qualifier helps ensure proper release ordering as specified by the OSGi specification. The official name appears in jar manifests, Maven pom files, and in Maven repository URLs.

Known Issues

There are a few known issues likely to impact users of JBoss AS 6.0.0.M2 that we would like to point out:

6.0.0.M2 validates most deployment descriptors it sees; this can result in deployment failures with applications whose descriptors do not conform to the schema. In particular, this impacts Seam applications, as one of the TLD files in the Seam distribution violates the schema (see JBAS-7594). This issue will be fixed in the next Seam release. Seam users can work around the problem by manually fixing the file as described in the JIRA.
The unsupported WAR_BUNDLES_JSF_IMPL option described on the JBoss AS 5 and My Faces wiki page will not work with M2. It is expected that this option (with increased flexibility) will return in M3.
Running two AS instances on the same host bound to the same IP address and accessing the embedded admin console on both will result in session confusion problems.
