CKAN for Open Data, Clément Mouchet, Sopra

Abstract submitted for this Lightning Session (2)

Recent budgetary and regulatory pressure have highlighted Open Data as a potentially efficient way to maximise the value data, encourage re-use and drive innovation.

CKAN (Comprehensive Knowledge Archive Network)  is a powerful data management system that makes data accessible – by providing tools to streamline publishing, sharing, finding and using data. It has quickly become the world’s leading open-source data portal platform, adopted by most open governments and public bodies providing an Open Data portal, including the UK Cabinet Office with data.gov.uk.

This talk will provide an overview of CKAN’s features: how it has been designed to be extended and how it can be customised to integrate with your existing infrastructure and services to maximise the value of your data, either by using it as an Open Data portal, or internally as an information hub.
