Local Refs from Web application

I have one application that is divided in 2 parts one is a web interface and another is a several ejb. My problem is I can't deploy the web application and the EJB separated in different files. I only can deploy together in a ear file. Many times I want only to deploy new changes to the web application a I can't update only application. There is a way to deploy separated ? There is any sample?

To access the ejb from a war in a different deployment
use the global local jndi name

local/<ejb-name> by default

You can only use local-ref in the same deployment,
i.e. an ear
