but i did not quite understand....
This is what the client says

// Get a reference to the Interest Bean
Object ref = jndiContext.lookup("interest/Interest");
and how can make sure that the bean is deployed as I do not see in the jboss console anything after the bean is deployed.
I am stuck on this...

and invoke the list operation from that page. it will give the list of all deployed jndi names -

is it compulsory to mention the data source in the connection method.

In this case you are doing deploy to file: interest.jar and the correct option is interest.ear. The correct target is:
