ejbPassivate semantics

What is the state of a stateful session bean after its passivation has failed due to

1) non serializable fields in the bean class
2) ejbPassivate throwing an EJBException

Is it still active in the bean cache or is it scheduled to be garbage collected? What does the EJB spec say about this?

I think its fair to assume that its deleted.

If a bean throws a runtime exception, the instance is discarded by the container.
