    TPTP on JBDS

is anyone using TPTP profiling with JBDS

I just can't get it to work: I suppose TPTP requires some other plugins EMF or WTP(?) of another version, but I'm not sure.

If anyone can help, please let me know - then I'll post the details.

I thought we did enable profilling for our jboss adapters - if it does not work then please report it in jira with steps on what we shuold do to reproduce the issue and show what you would expect to happen.

            I still have some problems.

But first of all, the good news:
I got TPTP to work now - at least when I start JBoss server with explicit VM arguments (-XrunpiAgent:server=enabled on JRE 1.5) and use an external agent controller).

            But this problem still persists:
When I select the JBoss server in the Server View (in Profiling Perspective), I see the 'Profiling' menu entry, but it is deactivated.
Since I'm new to eclipse, I am not sure what the problem could be, but I noticed some things, that could be the problem.

            1) when I look at Help - Software Updates - Manage Configuration, I see that there are some features with problems:

            x J2EE JST Project SDK 2.0.1
             x J2EE JST Project 2.0.1
x JST Server Adapter Plug-in Developer Resources 2.0.1
x JST Server Adapters Developer Resources 2.0.1
             x JST Server Adapters 2.0.1:
Plug-in "org.eclipse.jst.server.generic.jboss" version "1.5.105.v200709061325" referenced by this feature is missing.

            all other plugins are ok.
The problem also exists on a clean JBDS installation (on my PC).
Does anyone else, also see these problems on a clean JBDS 1.0 installation, or is it maybe smth. on my local machine?
Could this be the reason why the 'Profile' menu entry is deactivated?
Any ideas how I could fix this?

            2) when I open 'Run - Profile', should there be a top-level node 'JBoss server', similar to 'Apache - Tomcat'?
If so, it's missing, on my installation - maybe because of problem 1)?

            3) when I open 'Run - Profile' and select 'New' in the popup menu of node ''Run on Server' I get this error:
Problems occurred when invoking code from plug-in: "org.eclipse.jface".

            java.lang.IllegalArgumentException
            at org.eclipse.wst.server.core.internal.ResourceManager.getServer(ResourceManager.java:746)
            at org.eclipse.wst.server.core.ServerCore.findServer(ServerCore.java:286)
            at org.eclipse.wst.server.ui.internal.RunOnServerLaunchConfigurationTab.initializeFrom(RunOnServerLaunchConfigurationTab.java:105)

From some google searching, I suppose, this could be an incompatibility of some installed eclipse features.
So I tried to use TPTP 4.3.1 which has these dependencies:
            • Java Runtime Environment (JRE) or Java Development Kit (JDK) v1.4 or above
            • Eclipse SDK 3.2.1
            • Eclipse Modeling Framework (EMF and XSD) SDK 2.2.1
            • Eclipse Web Tools Platform (WTP) 1.5.1 (optional1)
            • Java EMF Model (JEM) SDK 1.2 (optional1)
            • Graphics Editor Framework (GEF) 3.2 (optional1,2)
            • Business Intelligence and Reporting Tools (BIRT) 2.1.1 (optional 2)The features bundled with JBDS 1.0 are:
              • Eclipse 3.3.2.R33
              • JRE 1.5
              • EMF SDO Extender SKD 2.3.0 XSD 2.3.1
              • GEF SDK 3.3.1
              • BIRT (not installed, but should be optional)since my features are newer than the required features, I think everything should work fine.
So what else could be the reason for this error-message?

mars - the best thing you could do is to open an issue in jira explaining what fails and what you actually expect to happen.

We have not used TPTP much our selves so would need a couple of directions on how to use this and examples of correct usage we could explore to figure out what we might be missing in our adapter to support it.

well, I'm not really sure, if there is a bug at all - so I could not give you better instrucation than those in my last post.

maybe I just broke my JBDS installation with another plugin.
Could anyone verify that the features, I mentioned in my last post under 1) also report problems with a clean installation of JBDS?

If so, I think I should post a jira.
