Why .war file?

Why I have to make .war file allways when I want to add,remove or update my jsp files?
Why I can't use $CATALINA_HOME/webapp to place my jsp files and Jboss get the files from there??
Like in weblogic, I can do both. war or just place my jsp files to www root dir.

Make a directory myapp.war in the deploy directory of jboss and put your files inside it.
