Access Logging enabled but no data written to log files

Hello,

I am trying to enable access logging in JBoss 4,2. I have uncommented the appropriate Valve in server.xml, restarted JBoss, and an empty log file is being created for each day. However, no data is being written to these files.

I don't think I have permissions problem since JBoss is able to create the empty file in the first place. Are there more configurations that need to be made?

I am running JBoss AS 4.2.1.GA on Ubuntu 7.10.

I still can't get JBoss to actually log requests. I can confirm that adding/removing the Valve from server.xml is having an effect (the service shows up in the JMX-console). Also, opening the write permissions on the log file to anyone has not solved this issue either.

Any ideas? Is this a bug?

In case anyone else runs into this thread, the issue has been resolved.

The problem was that the commented out Valve entry in server.xml contained the wrong Java class. Make sure to change the class to, "FastCommonAccessLogValve". The class of AccessLogValve is incorrect.

In the spirit of not spreading bad information the problem was not with the className. but a user error of not placing the valve within the appropriate host configuration.
