Is UseJK valve necessary when not doing load balancing?

I've got an apache+mod_jk -> jboss 4.2.2 setup. When I'm running with multiple nodes, I know I'm supposed to set the UseJK and jvmRoute attributes. Is this also necessary for simple, single node, pass-through, setups?

The UseJK flag is currently only used by the distributed session manager, i.e. the one that's used if you add

<distributable/>

to web.xml to enable session replication. No reason to use that in a single node setup.
