Beginner needs help with refactoring...

Hello,

I have a plain jsf application that I would like to port to ajax. The problem is that I have added a4j controls and and an a4j status component.

It shows as "in progress" when the user uses the added ajax controls but the user is surprised when he/she uses plain links and form submit because the "in progress" image doesn't show. what is the easiest way for the user to always have the "in progress" status component showing?

Please help. I want to improve user experience...

a4j:status works only in case of Ajax requests. So, it should not work when user presses the regular non-ajax button or link.
