Security options in JBoss 4.4

All,

I'm looking for options/strategy here - am using JBoss 4.4 ESB with SOAP services. These services range in security - none to BASIC AUTH to client certs.

I'm looking for an implementation strategy that applies to ESB 4.4 and is preferably configurable via XML files vice java.

I've seen many posts regarding various options: Smooks, JAX-WS, WS-SECURITY, etc. but am hoping to cut through all these options and settle on "the best".

Any thoughts are welcome.
