Maximum size of queue (not message)

hey all,

Is there any size limit on the size of messages that can be in a queue? For instance, if I have MDB listening to a queue, happily consuming messages, but then I undeploy the MDB, and messages keep arriving at the queue, is there a limit there? Or is it (as I assume) simply a matter of how much disk/database space (depending on pm impl)?

Yes.. mainly memory/disk/databse space. But for each message placed on the queue, jbossmq keeps messages in some collections objects. Is there any limit on how many items can be placed inside of a java collection??

Does it mean that at startup jbossmq has to iterate all messages for each persistent queue to create the collection. I am asking because I am experiencing problems with persistent queue of 100 1M messages. I am not able to start the server ( I understand that this depends a lot on the configuration and resources ).

Yes, but with the message cache feature, you should be ok with even 100 1M messages.

Message cache is the reason why I am trying JBoss3.
You are right, now I am able to handle considerable ammount of large persistent messages, but I am not able to start the server which has ( from my experience ) about 100 M of persistent messages already stored on HDD ( cache settings 60/80 ).
